Round Square is a worldwide network of 180 innovative schools, spread across 50 countries. It offers schools a framework for excellence and continuous improvement, along with opportunities to collaborate with like-minded peers around the world.
Beaconhurst has officially been a member of Round Square since October 2014 and is proud to be one of only two schools in Scotland to have been accepted.
Being a member of this prestigious organisation enables Beaconhurst pupils to take part in international exchanges and service projects around the world, and to travel as delegates to conferences hosted by other Round Square schools.
Round Square was inspired by education philosopher, Kurt Hahn. He created the six Round Square IDEALS—Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service—which are incorporated into member school’s curriculums and fit well with Beaconhurst’s values.
Beaconhurst shares Round Square’s philosophy that education should go beyond the classroom, extending to personal development and a sense of global responsibility.
Kurt Hahn’s words have inspired many young people to excel beyond their wildest dreams:
“There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps, for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less.”
