The Expressive Arts play a vital role in enabling children and young people to enhance their creative talent and develop their artistic skills. By participating in the Arts, young people can express and communicate ideas, thoughts and feelings, both their own and those of others. They also encourage young people to value the variety and vitality of culture—locally, nationally and globally.
Every child at Beaconhurst, from Nursery through to S6, has the opportunity to express themselves through the Arts. This is available both during class time and through the huge amount of extra-curricular activities on offer in Art, Music and Drama. These activities take the form of after-school clubs, weekend workshops, concerts and performances, theatre visits, dance competitions, and many more.
Some highlights so far this year have included: Transition-S6’s performance of Romeo and Juliet for our first time taking part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival; our annual Christmas Carol Concert; Transition-S3’s performance of Bugsy Malone; a Saturday ‘Stomp’ workshop for J4 to S6; and Junior pupils have been working with the Scottish Opera towards a performance of The Tale O’ Tam O’Shanter.
