Beaconhurst girls’ tennis squad travelled down to Sunderland on Thursday to compete in the Aegon North of Britain Regional Finals. There were 4 teams vying for one place in the national finals. The team (Ali Collins, Jodie McLelland, Eve Lumsden and Maia Montgomerie) won their first match convincingly against Pocklington School (Yorkshire). Each of the girls won their singles and doubles and did not concede one game throughout the entire match. The afternoon proved to be more challenging. Beaconhurst faced stronger opposition against Kirkham Grammar School. The games for the top 2 singles players were close at the start but the determination and commitment from both Ali and Jodie resulted in 2 singles wins. Eve and Maia won their singles comfortably and went on to win their double with ease. This result takes the girls into the Aegon National Schools finals in Bolton in 2 weeks. The girls will compete against the very best tennis schools in Great Britain. To get to this stage is an incredible achievement against some very established tennis schools throughout the North of Britain. The girls are really looking forward to the challenge ahead and we wish them the best of luck for the final stages of this competition.
