Physical Education at Beaconhurst is a fully inclusive, competitive and fun environment for all pupils from Nursery to Senior 6. Sports on offer include hockey, swimming, dance, gymnastics, basketball, badminton, tennis, rugby, triathlon and golf.
There is a Sports Hall, an outdoor Multi Use Games Area, a small gym within the school grounds, and in 2017 an indoor golf facility was opened allowing golf training to occur year-round. More facilities are available at the University of Stirling, such as all-weather pitches for school matches, a first-class athletics track and an Olympic standard swimming pool used for training by Olympic medallists. Our partnership with the University provides access to high level facilities for all sports. Use of iPads and video analysis are utilised in the class teaching.
Pupils participate in a variety of activities throughout their time at Beaconhurst to allow them to develop many different skill bases. Pupils have the opportunity to choose to participate in a number of sports through competitive teams and clubs.
Within this area pupils are able to interact socially as part of a team. They learn to cooperate with each other and problem solve. They will develop a very good skill base in a variety of areas to allow them to have the skills and confidence to continue to participate in sport and physical activity when they leave school, promoting lifelong participation. They also have the potential to study Physical Education as an SQA subject at National 5 and Higher.
