Learning at Beaconhurst starts in our award-winning and sector-leading Nursery.
We provide a safe, stimulating and, above all, happy environment. There are two stages of Nursery: ante-pre-school for children aged two years nine months (Nursery 1) and pre-school for children aged four (Nursery 2). We have high expectations that children attending Nursery will be toilet trained by the time of commencement.
We are a term time Nursery and we follow the Curriculum for Excellence – Early Stage. Our Nursery staff are all qualified Early Years Practitioners, who work closely as a team.
The majority of children will progress from Nursery to Beaconhurst’s Junior School; strong links are established, particularly during the second year of Nursery, to ensure a seamless transition to Junior 1.
Each child has a practitioner responsible for planning, evaluating and developing their own individual learning programme. Communication with home is encouraged, forming the foundation of the school/home partnership which exists throughout the school.
The Nursery has access to all the facilities on the school campus and regular educational outings are arranged. The Nursery also welcomes visitors from other parts of the school, including staff from the Modern Languages department who introduce foreign languages to the children.
Our Cycling Initiative, suggested by the children themselves, teaches them this valuable life skill and encourages ambition and resilience. In 2015-16, 100% of our pre-school children learned to ride a pedal bike.
Beaconhurst Nursery provides a solid foundation for education, where confidence is developed, enquiry is encouraged and a love of learning is established.
The Nursery was recently awarded excellence in all 6 categories from the Care Inspectorate.
