Careers education is an essential component of pupil support at Beaconhurst. It is part of the guidance provided through the tutor, year group and Guidance systems, with individual consultations with careers staff conducted at important transition points in pupils’ lives.
Our aim is to help pupils make appropriate study and career choices and to give them an assured outlook with regards to higher education.
Through our advice, we encourage pupils to develop self-awareness, gather information on careers opportunities and gain a wider knowledge of the working world.
Beaconhurst careers guidance starts in S2 and continues through to S6. At the beginning of S6, pupils are interviewed with a view to making a final decision on a future education course and are given instructions on how to complete the UCAS form. The completion of the form is supervised by a UCAS adviser, with a particular focus on the personal statement.
Beaconhurst is also a member of the Independent Schools Careers Organisation (ISCO) which provides careers information through a network of advisers. Their advisers are trained in Careers Guidance and Development and benefit from Continuing Professional Development, ensuring that students receive the most appropriate and up-to-date guidance. They also support the school in running Futurewise testing and carry out individual interviews with pupils.
