Nursery
Learning at Beaconhurst starts in the Nursery. Here we aim to provide a safe, secure, stimulating and, above all, happy atmosphere. There are two stages: ante-pre-school for children aged three and pre-school for four year olds. Staff are all qualified Early Years Practitioners who work closely as a team as well as with colleagues from other parts of the school. The vast majority of children will progress from the Nursery to the Junior School and strong links are established particularly in the second year of nursery to provide a seamless transition to Junior 1.
Each child has a key worker responsible for planning, evaluating and developing their own individual learning programme. Communication with home is encouraged and this forms the basis of the school/home partnership which is a feature throughout the school.
The nursery curriculum is constructed around the areas of:
- communication and language
- knowledge and understanding of the world
- expressive and aesthetic development
- emotional, personal and social development
- physical development and movement
Children use all the facilities of the school campus and regular visits are arranged outside school as well as visitors coming into the nursery from time to time; including staff from the Modern Languages department who introduce foreign languages to pre-school children. The Nursery provides solid foundations where confidence is developed, enquiry encouraged and a love of learning established.
