Beaconhurst School

Games and Extra-Curricular

Games and Extra-CurricularAll pupils follow a core Physical Education course throughout their time in the school. This includes gymnastics, swimming, athletics and many team sports, which are played at a competitive level against schools within Central Scotland. The majority of matches take place on Saturday mornings and are detailed in each term’s calendar.

We make extensive use of Stirling University Sports complex which offers some of the very best facilities in the country and enables pupils both to learn and develop skills to the highest standard. As well as the skills of PE staff, we work closely with students from the university on the Sports Studies degree course, which gives us access to the latest coaching techniques.

In the Junior School, pupils are introduced to the basic skills of movement and co-ordination and are encouraged to take part in a wide range of physical activities to develop both ability and confidence. As they progress, pupils take part in the school’s Games Programme which runs after school on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. In the autumn and spring terms this programme focuses on hockey and in the summer term on athletics as well as a programme for Transition to Senior 3 pupils who can opt from a range of activities including golf, canoeing, tennis, football and soft ball.
Games and Extra-Curricular

Senior pupils can take out membership of Stirling University’s Sports Facilities, which allows them access to the fitness suite and swimming pool as well as a range of other facilities year round. Pupils in Senior 6 can sign out to use this during free periods.

At all levels of sport, the school’s ethos is to enrich the education of pupils by providing a stimulating and competitive environment for all that is regardless of ability but emphasises participation as an essential ingredient of a healthy lifestyle .
